COLOMBIA – BUCHANAN’S TIEMPO PARA COMPARTIR – BUCHANAN’S SHARE YOURSELF April 10, 2012

We have completed a month of Buchanan’s Tiempo Para Compartir in Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.

Speaking from the inside of how this program has been, we are extremely proud of what we have achieved and how Colombian people have responded to donate 4 hours of their time helping the community, meeting new people, and building good things. I personally have to say that has been a busy month, but full of enjoyment. Working with the charity partners has giving us a tremendous energy of good things and we want to keep working. And you know what? The people who have been volunteering want to come back, and not because of the concert or artist (which by the way we still don’t know who it is), but because how good is to feel that you are helping other people and doing something good for the community.

We are almost there, but for now wanted to share with you some videos of what we have been doing.

This is our first project, building a community centre in Ciudad Bolívar with the charity Un Techo Para mi País:

With Arcángeles, we are building a technology centre, with recycled bottles (pet bottles). This project has taken us a lot of work, but is amazing how is coming together, and we are looking forward to see it finish.

So are you willing to donate 4 hours of your time, to become part of this movement?

Buchanan’s Tiempo Para Compartir!!!! March 12, 2012

As I mentioned in my previous post, I´m working as NGO´s partnership manager in Colombia for RockCorps. And last week we launched the program we are working on in Latin America, with our whisky partner Buchanan’s, which is launching its news program Share Your Self!

This year we will be trying to change the minds of 8.000 people, who will be doing 4 hours of community service, donating in total 26,000 hours, in México D.F., Caracas and Bogotá. And we will be celebrating this with a concert, in a very RockCorps´style in May.

Here in Colombia, we will be working with 9 NGO´s with 40 projects. We started this past weekend, and let me tell you the reaction was amazing!

Here is a video to see what all is about:

One person at the time, and we can change the World! January 31, 2012

One person at the time, and we can change the World!

With this philosophy RockCorps started in 2005 in United States, and now they have changed the mind of more than 81,000 people who become volunteers that have donated more than 324,000 hours of their time to social causes, in USA, England, France and Israel.

Now RockCorps is starting projects in Latin America in Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia, and I am happy and proud to be part of the planning team in Colombia who will deliver this amazing program, more news to come and here a video that shows what exactly RockCorps have done, and I will be doing this semester.

Which Country is richer – Colombia or Japan?

According to this Japan Colombian citizen, Colombia is. And I have to say all what he says is true.

Sorry is not in English.

Love to hear this type of thoughts from someone who have been abroad in a country like Japan, but love a country like mine.

In Colombia we always are thinking that 1st world countries are better than us, and is true in some things, but we are a lot better in some many other things.

We just need to start thinking different and believe we as a group can make things better.

Cover book

Hi again!

It´s been a while, sorry for this, seems that I keep broking my promises, for that reason I have decided not to promise anything again and will try to write as much as I can when the time and inspiration comes to my mind.

The reason of this article is to share with you a book that came to my hands in a situation that I need it the most. Is not the time to give into detail but I have to say that it was a time that the trust in my professional self was not that high. The Servant, a simple story about the true essence of leadership by James C. Hunter (Click here to go to the book), as my dad described it, is a book that you have to keep next to you pillow to be able to read it every day to become that perfect LEADER that yourself, your people, your employees, your company, your community need you to be.

I’m not going to tell you what is about; as if a gift for you to read over and over to become that great leader. But I will write what the author describes the characteristics of what a Leader should be.

Patience:                                           Show self-control

Affability:                                           Pay attention, appreciate and encourage

Humility:                                            Be authentic, without pretensions or arrogance

Respect:                                             Treat others as they were important people

Generosity:                                       Satisfy other people’s needs

Indulgence:                                      Not hold a grudge when you harm

Honesty:                                            Be free of tricks

Commitment:                                  Follow your choices

Results: Service and sacrifice:    Put aside your own desires and needs; seek the best for the others.

Take a read to the book, believe you will like it!

New Job as Event Manager April 22, 2011

Hi again!

Has been a while since I haven’t been posting anything here, and I apologise for this. The end of last year and beginning of this 2011 was a time of change. I do not live any more in theLondon, theUKimmigration laws stop my possibilities to stay there any longer, so I moved back to my countryColombiain November. But not making this a problem, I managed to make the changes not so difficult and the good news is that I’m back to my family and I’m able to keep working in my career as event professional.

And that is what I want it to talk about in this post, since March I started working in one of the best experiential marketing agencies here in Colombia. The name is SISTOLE (check the website here). I started a new position as Event Manager, where I will be in charge to organise all the big events the agency has, national and internationally. I’m very excited as this is a new role in the company and the challenges are amazing. I love to be able to combine my Colombian experience and knowledge and all what I was able to learn when I was inEngland. Believe me, the combination is amazing!

Why? Well, Colombian people are not as the English ones, we are not that organise and we do not plan ahead that much time in advance, and in my first project I’ve been learning how to combine both.

My first client is PROEXPORT, the public agency in charge to promote the country in Tourism, Investment and Exportation, and I’m working in one of their most important events abroad. The agency will be promoting the country in what kind of food we can export, especially to Canada. We will be participating with 9 companies in SIAL CANADA in Toronto this 11 to 13th of May. I can’t show you the amazing stand we will have, but believe will be awesome!. Here is a press release if you want to know more about what we will be doing there (click on the link). But especially you will be able to taste our Colombian coffee, the amazing tropical fruits in amazing juices, some great bread, between others.

So these are the news until now, will keep you updated of what I’m doing, and showing you how Colombia do events.

Until the next time……

SUPERSONIC 2010 – JOB OPPORTUNITIES June 1, 2010

SuperSonic 2010

Well you all might now that this year SuperSonic has changed the date for October and is promising to be better that before (well knowing Lisa and Jenny you know that is possible), but I want to take to the opportunity to let you know that they are looking for a great people to be part of their team. Well our team, because this year I will be the Site Manager, that’s right:).

This blog post is too late to inform the Operational Manager position, the deadline was yesterday. But you can still make it for the Interns and Volunteer positions.

I have to say that be part of this team is amazing and you are able to learn lots of music, events, marketing, deal with artists, and not that nice things like cleaning and be aware of recycling, but is a great opportunity to meet amazing people, listening great bands and be part of one of the best festivals in the UK and maybe the world. I started being a production intern in 2008 in charge of the merchandise area, and I did it so well (that was Lisa and Jenny said), that last year I was the Production Coordinator. So is a great place to build your career and learn.

So if you are interest in applying to be an intern follow this link and apply, you won’t regret it.

The intern positions available are:

-          Production

-          Marketing

-          Design

To volunteer is this link.
